Personal Work

u going out tonight? explores the dynamic intersection of gender, identity, and societal expectations within the nightlife scene. Through a series of paintings, this project delves into how nightclubs, as heteronormative spaces, shape and constrain the expressions of gender and joy. The works are divided into three thematic parts: Stage, Facade, and Cage. Each piece critically examines the gaze, self-surveillance, and restricted mobility, both physical and metaphorical, that limit freedom in these spaces. By reimagining these social environments, u going out tonight? offers a reflection on the complexities of negotiating personal identity within the confines of patriarchal structures.
